About
The Thoreau Way Ensemble is a group of professional Boston area musicians dedicated to progressive causes. Our focus is on protection of our environment, civil rights, universal health care, racial justice, women’s reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, governmental accountability, and immigrant rights. Our concerts are geared to fund-raising for various target organizations that exist to promote these causes. Our musicians provide short chamber music concerts at various sponsoring venues. Concerts are free of charge. Attendees are requested to write checks directly to our target organizations. We ensure all donations reach their intended destinations.
The group's founder, Nicola (Nicki) Payne, conceived of the Thoreau Way Ensemble the day after the election. She saw it as a way she could make a difference by providing cultural healing, encourage community engagement, while raising needed funds for worthy international, national, and local organizations whose activities have proven results with regard to the above causes. The Thoreau Way Ensemble aims to be a conduit for individual people to come together to have a big impact.
Some of the organizations we plan to raise money for through our concerts include:
ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Environmental Defense Fund, National Resource Defense Council, NAACP Legal Defense Fund,
Anti-defamation League, International Rescue Committee, Mass-Care, 350.org, Doctors Without Borders
